Another Cold Night

There is a man outside

Lying on the sidewalk

He is irate about something

I can hear him screaming

Obscenities

But I can’t really understand

Anything else

It is cold

And he is upset

There is a man

And a woman

Standing above him

They won't allow the man

To stand up

They are not wearing uniforms

They have smug faces

And walkie talkies

And wide stances

With hands in pockets

He is not screaming now

He lies very still

I don’t know what’s going on

No one seems to notice

And I feel a little scared

It is snowing quietly outside

The man

And the woman

Continue to stand above him

And are having a casual conversation

They are not wearing jackets

And they don’t look cold

And ambulance just came

The man

And the woman

Allowed him to stand

And walk into it

He screamed something

While he climbed aboard

The woman talked with the ambulance driver

For a long while

i cant see him anymore

he is inside

the woman

and the ambulance driver is laughing
